Fabrication Technician Basic Qualifications
    • Interest in learning new skills and keeping pace with changing technologies
    • Ability to problem solve and work with others to find the best solution

    • A passion for craftsmanship
    • Three plus years of hands-on manufacturing experience
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
Performs a variety of fabrication and/or assembly tasks to produce opto-mechanical assemblies and integrates with appropriate electronics to create HeNe lasers. Performs optical and electrical tests and measurements.
Ability to read and comprehend blueprints; understands process steps. Ability to understand and use computer systems to interact with REO systems.
LEVELING REQUIREMENTS
  • Performs basic assembly process steps on simple to medium difficult parts. Skills include but are not limited to:
  • Assemble, align and test required components to put laser tubes into housings.
  • Prepares and packages laser systems for shipment
  • Inspects quality and conformance of incoming material
  • Takes proper precautions when handling optical components
  • Issues material out of inventory system (M2M)
  • Follows process sheets or other process documentation
  • May weld, braze or seal glass and metallic components
  • May work with chemicals to clean metallic or glass components
  • May do simple electronic assembly (requires basic soldering skills)
  • Teamwork - ability to work effectively and contribute to team
  • No previous experience required
II. Is proficient in all Laser Fab Tech I tasks. Additional skills include, but are not limited to:
  • Align and pre-align laser tubes
  • Align tubes in external cavity configuration
  • May inspect incoming optics
  • Can build complex electronic assemblies (e.g. 35 mW power supply)
  • Performs advanced optical diagnostics
  • Aligns optical diagnostics (e.g. Frequency stability test station)
  • Evaluates RMA’s
  • May provide guidance to Laser Technician I
  • Advanced print reading skills – can read and comprehend all fabrication specs
  • Teamwork – works effectively within team and across departments. Can provide guidance to Tech I.
  • Typically has minimum of 3 years laser assembly experience
